These albums made Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers famous in the United Kingdom, but back home in the US, they were not nearly as popular. Hearing “Breakdown” or “American Girl” on the radio was something special.
And then, in 1979, something magical happened.
They broke through with their #2 album, Damn the Torpedoes in 1979 bringing with it a world tour and international fame
