“Absolutely Incredible!”

These two words, spoken by junior Tim Petersen, describe the evening perfectly.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers spun a web of musical delight over Central Illinois Monday night in a 2 ½ hour performance.

This concert series is the first time Petty has toured with the Heartbreakers in over two years, but from the sound of the show you would not know they were ever separated.

The show featured many of Petty’s greatest hits and drawing mostly from his more recent album, Into the Great Wide Open which he did with the Heartbreakers as well as Full Moon Fever which he did as a solo artist.

The show also drew heavily from Wildflowers, his most recent album in conjunction with the Heartbreakers.’

There was a brilliant acoustical section in the middle of the concert in which Petty played with fellow guitarist Mike Campbell and a percussionist.

The Central Illinois crowds I previously have witnessed were never like this, and Petty responded well to the excitement by saying he was “genuinely honored to be playing in front of such an enthusiastic crowd.”

If you get a chance to see this show you should. You will be glad you did.
